Integumentary

The integumentary system encompasses skin, hair or nail tissue. Researchers need such donated tissues to:

  • Better understand and treat certain cancers, hormonal imbalances, wounds, and skin diseases;
  • Test the effectiveness and safety of transdermal drug patches, new topical skin products, or the toxicity of environmental chemicals;
  • Retrieve stem cells in human hair follicles in hopes of developing a wide range of tissues including bone, muscle, cartilage and tooth enamel, and;
  • Engineer skin replacement therapy and develop injectable fillers for reconstructive surgery.

NDRI will place dermatomed or full thickness skin from donors of any age, including those with psoriasis, inflammation, and lupus.

We usually cannot accept tissue from a donor that have an infectious disease, such as hepatitis.
