Low PMI Donors

Low Post Mortem to Preservation Interval (PMI) Donors

NDRI works with a nationwide network of Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) to obtain consent and recover organs from donors being evaluated for transplant. Recovered organs have a post mortem to preservation interval of four to six hours and can be delivered to researchers within 24 to 36 hours via stat courier.

Examples of whole organs that can be recovered from low-PMI donors include:

  • Adrenal gland
  • Bladder
  • Dorsal root ganglia (DRG)
  • Heart
  • Intestine
  • Kidney
  • Liver
  • Lung
  • Lymph node
  • Ovaries
  • Pancreas
  • Spleen
  • Testes
