NDRI Provides Biospecimens from Healthy and Diseased Donors for Cardiovascular and Respiratory Research

NDRI specializes in meeting researchers' needs for human organs and tissues by creating customized recovery protocols that can be used for an array of experimental techniques.  Human tissues are available from surgical, autopsy, and low post mortem to preservation interval (PMI) donors.  NDRI can provide a variety of cardiovascular and respiratory services:

  • Fresh, fixed, or frozen tissues from prospective donors, including
    • Whole heart, atria, ventricles, or blood vessels
    • Whole lungs, bronchus, or trachea
    • Blood, bone marrow, or bone
  • Diseases such as congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, asthma, COPD, and cancer
  • A Biospecimen Inventory containing frozen and fixed samples from rare diseases, including lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM)
Why Choose NDRI?

"Our work depends on frequent acquisition of both normal and diseased viable human organs. With a national network for procurement, 24/7 staffing and the use of efficient courier services, NDRI is a critical partner."

NDRI's  Services for Cardiovascular and Respiratory Research:

Prospective Recoveries: NDRI works with organ procurement organizations, tissue banks, and hospital partners to obtain consent and recover tissue from donors for biomedical research. Tissues are recovered based on investigator-defined donor and preservation requirements and can be shipped to researchers fixed, frozen, or fresh in media with antibiotics. All tissue samples are deidentified with available donor medical/social history data.

Biospecimen Inventory: NDRI maintains a large inventory of various frozen and fixed tissue samples as a resource for investigators who are in need of tissue quickly. Tissues available include rare diseased and HIV samples.
