Referral & Recovery Process

Referral & Recovery Process

NDRI’s streamlined referral and recovery process is designed to simplify procedures for donors and their families and ensure that researchers receive requested biospecimens in a timely manner.

Our referral and recovery process is simple and meets all federal regulations concerning privacy, informed consent, biomaterials handling and other requirements.

01. Obtain informed consent

All donors or their families must sign a consent form specifying that their organs, eyes or tissues can be used for research.

Hospitals with surgery consent forms specifying that surgical discards can be used for research do not have to acquire additional consent when providing these tissues to NDRI.

02. Contact NDRI

Our Fulfillment staff is available 24/7/365.

Call (800) 222-6374 and select option 1 from the menu.

03. Recover organs and/or tissues

After matching the donor with our active research projects, NDRI provides a donor-specific recovery list with precise recovery and preservation instructions.

04. Ship organs and/or tissues

Post recovery, NDRI coordinates shipment of the recovered organs and/or tissues directly to an approved researcher or to the NDRI Logistics Facility for short-term storage.

NDRI is a Not-For-Profit (501c3) Corporation.
