Current Programs & Initiatives
Progress in treating common and rare diseases often hinges on access to both normal and diseased human tissues. NDRI works with Tissue Source Sites (TSSs) across the country to recover these much-needed biospecimens for research centers and institutions engaged in critical medical and scientific research. Investigators from universities, medical centers and research hospitals in just about every major U.S. city rely on us to deliver the specimens they need to advance their studies.
More than 80 percent of our researchers report a need for more tissues for their studies. Increasingly, the demand is for specialized normal and diseased tissues that are particularly difficult to procure. We have developed a number of targeted programs to encourage donation of human tissues and organs for specific areas of research with the highest demand for more resources.
Recovery Technicians are trained to properly recover surgical and post-mortem biospecimens according to detailed instructions developed specifically for each project described.
