ENCyclopedia of DNA Elements

ENCyclopedia of DNA Elements

ENCyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) was launched by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) in 2003 with the goal to study the human genome and identify the functional elements of DNA.

In 2015, NDRI was subcontracted to identify and recover 4 donors for ENCODE utilizing established Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) procedures. Tissue collections for ENCODE were completed in tandem with GTEx recoveries, with as many as 25 distinct tissue types collected per donor in addition to the GTEx samples. At project completion, over 2,000 aliquots were collected for ENCODE analysis.

ENCODE  is a prime example of a project that enchances the potential impact of research by expanding on current project frameworks and maximizing the generous gift of research donation.

NDRI is a Not-For-Profit (501c3) Corporation.
