For the purpose of air transport, IATA classifies human tissues and organs as Category B Biological Substances. As such, they must be tendered to the courier in accordance with IATA regulations (UN3373). NDRI’s staff and key sourcing partners receive annual training from an IATA-certified agent on the handling, packaging and shipping of hazardous materials and infectious substances.

About the International Air Transport Association (IATA)

Dangerous Goods Regulations (DRG) are the world airline industry’s guidance for preparing, packing, documenting and accepting dangerous goods for transport by air. It is essential that shippers, cargo agents and freight forwarders comply with these regulations to ensure safe and efficient transport of dangerous goods. Cargo handlers are responsible for ensuring compliance with regulations and can face potential fines for non-compliance. For more information about IATA, visit http://www.iata.org.
